The title, for example. In Atlanta theres a walk called the Asshole Stroll, which is when a pedestrian purposefully takes his time crossing the street deliberately not at a crosswalk. Its a spiteful jaywalk. An Asshole Stroll. And the pedestrian makes eye contact with you, the driver, as he does it. Hollis does not see the pedestrian. He jumps out of the way and calls her a bleachy-haired honky bitch. (Gillespies stand-up is just as funny and poignant. I got to see her perform once but was too star-struck to be like YOURE MY FAVORITE I LOVE YOU, although now I surely wish that I had.) This one is fun because it can be both honest and fun, and thats why it makes the list. For Women Who Are Difficult to Love, Warsan Shire This poem will break your heart, but its empowering, too: its exactly what the title says it is. If, when you hear it, it sounds familiar, its because Beyoncé used Warsan Shires poems in her album Lemonade. I Like You: Hospitality under the Influence by Amy Sedaris So, this book is a cookbook, but only in the sense that it has recipes in itâ"and all the recipes are good, and worth trying. What makes it interesting and relevant to Galentines Day is that this book also shows how to entertain and what to expect when, say, you have an uninvited house guest, youre hosting a wake, or even what to bring as a hostess gift. This book is not only helpful to prepare for Galentines Day, but its also a great Galentines Day gift. Gender Discrimination and Motherhood Myths - Free Essay Example
This section presents the results of some analyses which have been conducted. One of the analyses is mediation analysis, which shows that the more people hold sexist attitudes regarding gender roles, the more they endorse motherhood myths, which in turn enhances the opposition to womenââ¬â¢s career after the birth of a child. The survey conducted in participant countries shows that these countries are stating motherhood myths as a mediator of the sexism-opposition to womenââ¬â¢s career relationship, rather than sexism as a mediator of the myths-opposition to womenââ¬â¢s career relationship. Finally, this result suggests that the endorsement of motherhood myths is not a mere consequence of discrimination. Taken together, analyses conducted on the whole sample, as well as on each country separately, support the main assumption that endorsement of motherhood myths is a significant mediator of the relationship between sexism and opposition to womenââ¬â¢s career. Moderated mediation analyses The indirect effect through survey waves ââ¬â The moderated mediation model was estimated using a multiple-group approach. The difference between the indirect effect in 2012 and 1994 is not significant. The indirect effect is not moderated by the survey year, except in Great Britain where the indirect effect, although still significant, decreased between 1994 and 2012, and Bulgaria, Poland, and Russia where the indirect effect slightly increased between 1994 and 2012. Results confirm that the indirect effect of sexism on opposition to womenââ¬â¢s career through motherhood myths is not moderated by the respondentsââ¬â¢ gender in 15 out of the 16 countries. The only exception is Poland. In this country, the indirect effect is stronger for the female than for the male respondents. Hierarchical regression analysis A hierarchical regression analyses was conducted in order to establish the respective contributions of demographical variables, motherhood myths and sexism to objection of working women. Firstly, participantââ¬â¢s gender and partnership were analyzed together with standardized scores of age, years of schooling, subjective social status, presence of religious services and political orientations. Step two included sexism, the myths about the aversive consequence of motherââ¬â¢s work for her child and for family. Predictors in first survey accounted for 9% of the variance. The analysis revealed the significant effects of participantââ¬â¢s gender, years of schooling age and political orientation. Partnership was not related to opposition to womenââ¬â¢s work. Held together with the results democrat that the higher the time of education and the subjective social status, the lower the opposition to womenââ¬â¢s work. Contrarily, the higher the age, political conservatism and religiosity, the higher the opposition to womenââ¬â¢s work. Finally, results show that opposition to womenââ¬â¢s work is more pronounced amongst men than amongst women., sexism and motherhood myths are accounted for an additional 18% of the variance, indicating that these variables significantly improved the modelââ¬â¢s ability to predict opposition to womenââ¬â¢s work, over and above the contributions of gender, partnership, education, social status, religiosity, and political orientation. Specifically, the analysis revealed the significant effects of sexism, a myth about the aversive consequence of motherââ¬â¢s work for her child and myth about the aversive consequence of womenââ¬â¢s work for the family. It should be also considered that the effect of participantââ¬â¢s gender virtually disappeared after controlling for sexism and motherhood myths.

It is unfortunate that even after it was proven that Whole Word Approach is better than Phonemic Approach; people still use Letter Word Approach. Teachers who taught children using letter approach recommended children to read text that was manipulated with letters while those who utilized Whole Word Approach recommended children to read text that is controlled by words. At the start of the twenty first century educationist recommended the combination of both Whole Word Approach and Letter Approach. It was after these encounter that educationist in America emphasized on the use of Whole Word Approach and discouraging the use of Phonic Approach. Children were given storybooks to read, and this was supposed to improve their reading skills. The books contained pictures that were used for understanding of t he story, the words did not contain the story line but the pictures did. Researchers argued that phonic contributed to illiteracy because it does not give instruction. It is because of this reason that teachers are advised to teach children on the different sounds of letters. This enables learners to read and understand effortlessly (Moustafa, 2008). European Union and Human Rights Watch - Research Paper Example The European Union (EU) is one of the many institutions created with the solid intent of promoting and fostering peace among the constituent members and the world in general. The EU has led to the achievement of many goals and missions among them protection of sovereignty of the member countries, enhancing economic status of the member states, promoting democracy and literacy in the member states. EU has also fostered and as well as establishing adaptable regional and international relation of the member countries and outside world. The ideas that led to the formation and establishment of the European Union (EU) emerged in the early 1940s (Briney). The main idea was to reduce the series and cases of wars that involved individual European nations and to steer the constituent countries towards positive social-economic and political growth. It is important to reckon that the existence of small institutional relations otherwise called alliances, which consisted of friendly EU nations, wa s the main escalator and stimulator of the World War II that rocked the continent. The purpose of the alliances was to help create a protective shell developed on pacts signed by friendly nations to assure military, political and economic support upon external attacks and threats against any member. Alliances defined the political organization of the European states during and immediately after the end of World War I. However, this changed during and after the World War II as states settled to deliberate and solve differences that spurred conflicts among them. The first step was the unification of the coal and steel industries under the umbrella of European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). This organization became operational upon the signing of the Paris Treaty in 1951 under the chairmanship of Robert Schuman, who was French minister for foreign affairs. Upon formation, ECSC consisted of six member countries namely, France, Belgium, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, and West Germany. In collectivity, the member states exercised control over the steel and coal industries, which produced ammunitions among other things (Dimitrakopoulos 13). The year 1957 saw the signing of yet another important pact named the Rome Treaty. Rome Treaty led to the creation and establishment a common market known as the European Economic Community (EEC). The main reason behind signing and commencement of the EEC was to unify the Eastern and Western fronts that tended to be at war. EEC could therefore help spread diversity across the contradicting fronts as people moved and traded freely across the member states that included the initial six members of ECSC (Dimitrakopoulos 14). During the same year of 1957, and still in Rome, was the signing of another treaty that led to the creation of the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or EURATOM). The three organizations that included the ECSC, EEC and the EAEC reduced to what was the European Communities. According to Carbaugh, the need to consolidate the operations of the three organizations under single commission and council attracted a meeting in Brussels that led to the eventual signing of the Treaty of Merger in 1965 (7). Denmark, United Kingdom and Ireland joined the European Communities in 1973, raising the number of members to nine. The increasing
